The experience of Wabi Sabi

Written by  Vijaya  Chamundeswari

Our last meeting at Ragamalika Apartments Government Park was an experience of Wabi Sabi. Two of our members lost their mother leaving them heavy hearted with just memories to hold on forever. Bonsai has taught us a lot about impermanence which is needed for the balance of life and imperfections that are to be accepted with grace, giving it a creative artistic touch.

The venue shifted from an airconditioned hall to a gazebo in a park. The sweltering afternoon heat did not keep us bonsai enthusiasts away. We intently listened to all that was shared as we kept shifting from one seat to another to dodge the sunlight from giving us a free sauna. George gave an extensive talk on ramification asking questions and answering doubts in his usual all compassing way swinging his hands in all directions. Mohan spoke about the wood apple or feroniella lucida that belonged to the family of geometry trees or Bucida. There was a lipstick ficus that was all set to show off its pink shooting tips that resembled a cute little lipstick. Doctor spoke about air layering and worked on a jungle jelebi tree/Feronia limonia that looked quite confusing until he transformed it into a wonderful drooping/weeping style.

George 's tips  on ramifications of tamarind  bonsai.

Drops of sweat trickled down our temples while we bit into hot samosas straight from the pan. Hot tea was served to turn the droplets of sweat into a steady flowing stream BUT we Bodhi members never gave up….we ate and absorbed it all into our system…heh heh I meant the bonsai information.

As always, we bid adieu until our next after a short discussion on dates and venues.
